Equipped with the very first 100% in-house chronograph movement, the Chronomat B01 majestically heralds Breitling’s grand entrance into the selective circle of genuine watch movement manufacturers.

Built to guarantee a high degree of sturdiness, water-tightness and shock resistance, the case features a new elongated profile that smoothly molds the wrist. The unidirectional rotating bezel – an essential companion in measuring flight or dive times – is adorned with exclusive engraved numerals ensuring excellent readability while endowing the chronograph with an eminently recognizable face.
Available in hour-marker or Roman numeral versions, the dials display their information with great clarity. The supple, ultra-sporty bracelets are equipped with mobile lugs guaranteeing optimal fit and comfort. Visual pleasure and functionality are thus combined in every detail of the finishing.
The Breitling Chronomat B01 is tailor-made to withstand the most extreme conditions while never failing to fulfill its mission. Chronometer-certified like all Breitling movements, the Caliber B01 has successfully been certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) with accompanying documentation to prove its clearance of highly meticulous precision testing. It is considered a high frequency movement at 28,800 vibrations per hour. This timepiece has been developed with endurance in mind and boasts 500 meters of water resistance. Another feature that has created excitement over this new Breitling movement is an optimized column-wheel device that provides a clean start/stop function without a jump of the hand. The movement is equipped with a 70 hour reserve which is an impressive feat considering its sleek shape. A patented self setting device for the resetting hammers does away with the traditional need to have a watchmaker correct each individual movement.

This may be a wonderful movement but as a person who uses his chronograph function very often, the design is a disappointment. This kind of layout makes it difficult to read the elapsed time when the hour and/or minute hand happens to be over the register where you need information. Furthermore, a 30min register is not helpful when you need a quick assessment of elapsed time. A 60min counter would be much better, like that offered by the Sinn EZM6. Better still is what I prefer to wear when I am out timing, i.e. a watch with a central chronograph minute pointer like that which is offered by the Lemania 5100 movement, certain Perregaux movements etc. For its cost effectiveness and ruggedness there still seems to be nothing close to the Lemania 5100.
